Advertising
If your website attracts a large volume of traffic or is on a very specialised niche topic then companies may contact you directly and ask you to advertise their products on your page. It may be worth setting up a seperate email address for this and displaying it in the contact me section of your website.
Google Adsense
Adsense is a program run by Google. It scans the contents of your website or blog and provides targetted adverts which are relevant to the site. You get paid when people click on them. The downside of this is that you don't have any control over what the adverts are for - hence why there are adverts for payday loan companies on this site. Feel free to click on them just so you can see the tactics they use to draw vulnerable people in but please do not apply for one.
Bidvertiser
Bidvertiser runs a similar program to Google Adsense. Click on the picture below for more information and to sign up
Affiliate marketing is where a banner or link is displayed on a website which leads to another website. When people click on this and buys a product or signs up to a service the owner of the original website is paid a commission. It is sometimes referred to as referral marketing or a partner programme. The downside of this is that too many banner adverts can be distracting to the content of your site and people are unlikely to click on them unless they are relevant. However, well placed banners that link to content can generate a lot of interest and cash for you.
If you mention another website on your blog on website it is worth checking to see if they have an affiliate scheme in place. After all you are probably directing traffic to them just be mentioning them so you may as well get some commission for it!
Most large companies with a website have an affiliate programme. Some examples are below - feel free to click on them!
Sell your website
If your website is sucessful and well designed then it may be worth a lot of money. Obviously the more traffic and advertising it attracts and the more well-designed it is the more you can sell it for. This will only work for websites that are doing well - I am certainly under no illusions that anyone would want to buy this one - but it can bring in a lump sum which could be handy for paying off payday loan debts. You can sell websites on eBay or you can put a note on your site saying that it is for sale and ask people to contact you with offers.
